Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Monday apologized for the remarks made by senior party leader and Minister Akhil Giri on President Draupadi Murmu stating that she does not support his remarks.
" I apologize for the remarks. My party has already apologized. We have the highest regard for the post of the President as well as that of the Prime Minister and other such crucial posts. We don't believe in resorting to personal attacks. This is not the culture of the party," said Mamata.

Speaking to reporters at the State Secretariat the Chief Minister also said that her party has cautioned Giri for his remarks on the President the Chief Minister said that the TMC has already cautioned Giri for his remarks and asked him to refrain from making such comments in the future failing which action will be taken against him.
" We have the highest regard for the President. It was wrong for Akhil to make such comments about the President. We condemn his remarks. Akhil has been told to refrain from making such remarks in the future failing which party will take action against him" said Mamata. The development comes days after Giri courted controversy by commenting on the President's looks at a gathering of TMC workers.
The Chief Minister also said that she has a deep respect for the President adding that skin tone has nothing to do with beauty. "Real beauty is internal beauty. The President is a good human being. What Akhil has done is wrong," she added.
