Nanded (Maharashtra): In a shocking incident, doctors at Godavari Hospital in Nanded continued to 'treat' a COVID-19 patient for more than three days after his death, allegedly in a bid to fleece as much money as possible from the family of the deceased.

Anklesh Pawar, a resident of Vinkar Colony in CIDCO area and a teacher by profession, tested positive for COVID-19 on April 16. Soon, he was admitted to Godavari Hospital. He succumbed to the infection on April 21. However, the doctors declared him dead only on April 24. The hospital footed a bill of Rs 1.40 lakh.

His wife Shubhangi Pawar, in her police complaint, alleged that her husband did not receive adequate attention and care at the hospital and the medical staff was only concerned about the bills. At the district sessions court, she furnished the medical bills and other documents to prove that her husband was declared dead three days after he actually breathed his last.

Upon an inquiry, the court held the hospital management guilty of the crime.
