Mahant Giri suicide: Autopsy reveals 'asphyxia due to hanging'

The post-mortem of Mahant Narendra Giri has been completed on Wednesday at the Swaroop Rani Medical College in Prayagraj and the autopsy report revealed 'asphyxia due to hanging.' The ABAP president will be laid to rest today.

The seer will be given a final farewell today, and already a large number of sadhus have arrived in Prayagraj to attend the last rites. Former MP Ram Vilas Vedanti also reached Shri Math Baghambri Gaddi.

"The post mortem of the ABAP President started today morning and is underway. A panel of 20 doctors had been constituted by the government, out of which, five doctors were chosen for conducting the procedure at the last moment. The post-mortem will be video graphed and the body will be kept for public viewing after that," an ABAP member had said earlier today.

The ABAP president will be given 'Bhumi Samadhi' today and the district administration has declared a holiday as a mark of respect.

Mahant Giri was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Baghambari Math on Monday. Police also recovered a suicide note in which the name of the seer's disciples, Anand Giri, and two others were mentioned. A charge of abetment to suicide has been lodged against them in the First Information Report (FIR) under Section 306

Anand alleged that it was a conspiracy by people who used to extort money from the ABAP president. Three of them have been booked by the police for abetment of suicide on Tuesday.

Following instructions from CM Yogi, two DSPs Ajit Singh Chauhan and Aastha Jaiswal have been included in the 18-member special investigation team to probe the death of the top seer.
