Lt Gen Gurmit Singh sworn in as new governor of Uttarakhand

Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) has sworn in as the new governor of Uttarakhand. Singh was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court Raghavendra Singh Chauhan.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand):Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) has sworn in as the 8th Governor of Uttarakhand. The Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court Raghavendra Singh Chauhan administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at a simple function held at the Raj Bhawan.

Lt General Gurmit Singh, who retired in the year 2016 after 40 years of service in the Indian Army, had handled military-strategic issues related to China many times during his tenure. Singh had also been an observer of the United Nations in Iran. Besides, during his illustrious career in the Indian Army, he was accorded four President's awards for distinguished Service/Gallantry and two Chief of Army Staff commendation awards.

Baby Rani Maurya, the outgoing governor of Uttarakhand, had left for Delhi on Monday afternoon having completed her three-year term. She was given a salute by a contingent of the Maratha Battalion Corps of the Indian Army at the farewell function.

President Ram Nath Kovind had accepted the resignation of Baby Rani Maurya as Governor of Uttarakhand and had appointed Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd) to the post.
