New Delhi:Just a day after Supreme Court put a stay on the implementation of the three contentious agriculture laws, Punjab Congress MPs and MLAs celebrated the Lohri festival by burning the copies of the farm laws as a mark of protest against the Centre.

Reports suggest that these MPs and MLAs are sitting on a dharna for over a month at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, demanding from the Central Government to repeal the three newly enacted farm laws. The protestors also sought a Parliament session to discuss over the matter.

While speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said, "How can we celebrate this festival happily when thousands of our brothers and sisters are sitting at the Delhi borders against these farm laws. We want to get free from these laws and that is why we have burnt their copies here."

Congress has also raised doubts over the 'impartiality' of the SC constituted a four-member committee, saying that those people were already in favour of the three laws.

"We had welcomed the SC's decision of putting a stay on these laws. But we have serious doubts over the committee they have formed for negotiations. These people are the support of the Central Government. Narendra Singh Tomar was constituting a better committee than this," Aujla said.

He also said that Congress has no expectations with the next round of talks between Center and farmers, which is going to be held on January 15, to find a solution over the impasse against the farm laws.

Congress is also planning to hold a protest across the country on Friday in which the state units will do a gherao of Governor's office against the farm laws.

Meanwhile, India's first Olympic medallist in boxing and Congress leader Vijender Singh also protested against the farm laws and wrote, "Kase likh du Happy Lohri mere desh ka kisan sadko pe hai (How will I celebrate Lohri when our farmers are agitating on the roads)."
