Congress depressed as unable to fight BJP politically: KK Sharma over Kharge's 'poisonous snake' dig at PM

Speaking to ETV Bharat's Anamika Ratna, Sharma said hurling such an abusive comment against PM Modi is an insult to the post that he holds.

New Delhi:BJP national spokesperson KK Sharma on Thursday lashed out at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a 'poisonous snake', saying such comments are a result of the party's helplessness and depression over failing to fight the saffron party politically. The common people will respond when the time comes, he said.

Addressing a rally in Kalaburagi in poll-pound Karnataka, Kharge said: "PM Modi is like a 'poisonous snake', you might think it's poison or not. If you lick it, you are dead." He later apologised for his statement and said that he was not speaking about Modi but was referring to the BJP's ideology.

In an interview with ETV Bharat, Sharma said hurling such an abusive comment against PM Modi is an insult to the post that he holds. Modi is the PM of our country. He is highly respected by all countrymen and by using such language it is actually the Congress that has stooped low. Such comment is highly condemnable and the common people will not take it lightly," Sharma said.

Kharge said Congress has realised that it is losing ground in Karnataka and unable to fight the BJP politically, the leaders are using such language. "They (Congress) can see its defeat clearly and so it has come down to insult the prime minister. The party leaders are well aware that Karnataka has gone out of their hands," Kharge said adding that such remarks can only provide the much-needed satisfaction to the Congress.

The BJP spokesperson said the Congress has used such language against the prime minister several times in the past but it is the saffron party that has got the advantage. He said that it is the public who will give a befitting reply to Congress at the correct time. "People are seeing that the BJP is working for all sections of the country while the other party is hurling abuses. They will respond when the time comes," he added.
