Kishtwar: At least eight people were killed while many others were injured after a passenger cab rolled down into a deep gorge at the Chatro area of J&K's Kishtwar district on Tuesday, officials said. As per the officials, the cab skidded off the road after the driver lost control and rolled down a gorge into a stream. An injured person has succumbed in the hospital.
Eight people have been killed in this accident and 3 are injured in the mishap of a road accident in the hilly district. Some of the injured are said to be critical. The identity of the dead or the injured was not immediately known. The injured were shifted by the Indian Army Bhandarkot and Kishtwar Police to the District Hospital for treatment.
"Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to a tragic road accident in Kishtwar. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. Directed district administration to ensure the best possible treatment to the injured," J&K LG Manoj Sinha said in a tweet.
Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the deaths in an accident in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district. The Prime Minister has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The Prime Minister's Office tweeted: "Saddened by the accident in Kishtwar. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi."
