'Kisan Sansad meant to strengthen farmers' movement'

After shows of strength by farmers in different states, including Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh, a Kisan Sansad has started Wednesday in Jaipur on the lines of Delhi today. Being held on International Democracy Day, the Kisan Sansad will demand the withdrawal of all three controversial agricultural laws.

Jaipur: Farmers' leader Himmat Singh Gurjar has said that the Kisan Sansad (farmers' parliament) is being organised here Wednesday to strengthen the ongoing farmers' movement and to tell the government that farmers of the country can also run a parliament.

“After holding the one in Jaipur, Kisan Sansad will be convened in every district and pressure will be exerted on the central government to withdraw all the agricultural three laws,” Gurjar said.

Farmer leaders from many states and representatives from various farmer organisations will be present in this Kisan Sansad, being held at the call of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha. The special thing is that the Kisan Sansad will be organised exactly on the lines of a Parliament session.

Gurjar, who is associated with the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, said that the 'proceedings' of this Kisan Sansad, which started at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur, will run just like the Parliament session. Various sessions will be held like Parliament from Question Hour to Zero Hour.

In the Kisan Sansad, not only will the issue of the three agricultural laws of the Centre be discussed, many other important issues related to public interest, including rising inflation and privatisation of public enterprises will also be discussed. Farmer MPs will present their side on these issues now. The Kisan Sansad sessions will last for about eight hours hours till 6 pm.

According to Gurjar, spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, who is leading the farmers' movement, will not be present in the Kisan Sansad being organised in Jaipur. However, farmers' representatives from different states of the country including Gurnam Singh Chaduni, Darshan Pal Singh, Balbir Singh Rajewal, and Jogendra Singh Ugraha, and Patidar leaders Alpesh Kathiria and Dinesh Bamnia from Gujarat will be attending the Kisan Sansad.
