Kerala: Central team to visit districts with high Covid positivity rate today

A six-member team headed by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Director SK Singh will reach Kerala today in a bid to aid the state's ongoing efforts in COVID-19 management. The team will also visit those districts with high Covid positivity rate.

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala):The six-member expert central team entrusted to help the Kerala government in reducing the number of Covid cases will arrive in the state on Friday. SK Singh, the director of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) will visit the districts reporting a high positivity rate. The Centre had pointed out that 37% of the total Covid patients in the country are in Kerala. In this context, the expert team is visiting the state. Meanwhile, the test positivity rate in the state has risen over 13 per cent. The TPR reported on Thursday was 13.53 per cent. As Kerala recently witnessed an uptick in the number of Covid-19 cases, complete lockdown is also being imposed in the state on July 31 and August 1.

In a tweet, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, "The Central government is sending six-member team to Kerala headed by NCDC Director. As a large number of COVID cases are still being reported in Kerala, the team will aid state's ongoing efforts in COVID-19 management." The ministry's statement said the team will work closely with state health authorities, take a stock of the ground situation and recommend necessary public health interventions to contain the spread of the virus.

India reported 44,230 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as as per the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Friday. The death toll climbed to 4,23,217 with 555 deaths, while the active cases in the country now stand at 4,05,155 with a recovery rate of 97.38 per cent. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,07,43,972. The Ministry said that 45,60,33,754 people have been vaccinated so far in the country under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 46,46,50,723 samples have been tested up to July 29. Of which, 18,16,277 samples were tested on Thursday.
