Keep your 'love' for China aside, hurt it militarily, economically: Congress tells PM

On the first anniversary of the Galwan Valley standoff, Congress slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not clearing the government's stand on Chinese aggression. The grand old party also demanded the government to hit China either militarily or economically.

New Delhi:As India and China complete a year since troops from the two countries engaged in a brutal brawl at the Galwan Valley on June 15, 2020, the Congress party on Tuesday demanded the government to hit China hard either militarily or economically.

The Congress launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not clearing the government's stand on Chinese aggression. While addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, "The PM’s reaction after the supreme sacrifice, saying that no one entered our territory was deplorable. He has still not apologised and asked for forgiveness from the families of the martyrs, let alone the country."

"Has the PM asked China for accountability on distorting the status quo? If not, what is his chemistry with the Chinese worth," she sought to know. Shrinate said the Congress party and the people of India wanted to know whether Modi, during his talks with the Chinese leaders, bring up the fact that the neighbouring country single-handedly broke the peace agreement after its aggression in the Galwan Valley. "Why has the Mountain Strike Corps been disbanded," she asked.

Earlier on Tuesday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi also said in a statement, "Having patiently waited for the government to come clean and inform the nation about the circumstances in which the unprecedented incident happened and reassure the people that the sacrifice of our brave jawans was not in vain, the Congress party reiterates its concern that no clarity is yet available and the Prime Minister’s last word on the subject a year ago was that no transgression had occurred."

Shrinate asserted, "We urge the PM to give up ego, love for China and talk tough through military or economic measures. Banning apps won’t suffice, you have to hit China where it hurts, and that is it has to be hit economically."
