Bengaluru: Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai visited the city's central prison Parappana Agrahara recently to assess the COVID-19 situation and preparedness of prisons.
A 100-bed prison hospital has been set up to treat COVID-19 infected prisoners.

Prison officials said 240 prison inmates in the state have been tested positive for the infection. Around 80 percent of inmates above 45 years of age have been vaccinated.
Newly arrived prisoners are subjected to a 14-days quarantine. Some of these infected prisoners are being treated in isolation at Haj Bhavan, Bengaluru. Bommai said Rs. 5 crore will be released for these purposes from the State Disaster Response Funds.
A prison official said there was a need for more doctors and medical staff. He said arrangements will be made for virtual courts.
