New Delhi: Former JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar have joined Congress on Tuesday. The move to induct Kumar indicates Congress' attempt to add vibrancy to the poll-bound state units ahead of the 2022 Assembly Elections.
Along with Kumar, Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch (RDAM) MLA Jignesh Mevani has also joined the Congress.
Kumar and Mevani arrived at Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Park at around 4:30 pm. The duo led by Gujarat Congress working president Hardik Patel met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Mevani, a Dalit leader, may get a key role in Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee. Congress had adopted a similar strategy in Punjab by appointing Dalit leader Charanjeet Singh Channi as the Chief Minister, just months ahead of the Assembly polls. Mevani's induction is expected to garner support for Congress from the Dalit community in Gujarat.
Recently, Mevani congratulated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for appointing Channi as the chief minister of Punjab.
"The decision of appointing Charanjit Singh ji as the CM of Punjab is a message that Rahul Gandhi and Congress have given. It will have a tremendous impact on not just Dalits but all the subaltern masses. For the Dalits, the move is not just brilliant but soothing too," the RDAM MLA had tweeted.
