Rajouri: A militant was neutralized and a JCO of Rashtriya Rifles was killed on Thursday in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. While another officer was injured in the ensuing gunfire that broke out in Thanamandi area. Though, the JCO of Rashtriya Rifles who suffered bullet injuries was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility, he later succumbed to his injuries.
An official speaking to Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the encounter broke out in Karyote Kalas area, where a cordon and search operation was launched on Wednesday after reports of suspicious movement. When the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, militants began firing upon them, triggering an encounter, the official further said.

The soldier who was injured in the firing by militants, has been hospitalized, sources said. According to Rajouri SP Sheema Nabi Qasba the encounter is still underway and that this is the second encounter in the area this month. Earlier, on August 6, two LeT militants in an encounter with security forces in Thanamandi area.
Earlier on August 16th, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured as militants hurled a grenade at a CRPF bunker in Langate area of Handwara, Kupwara district, J&K Police had said, adding that a vehicle was damaged. Prior to that on Sunday, a CRPF jawan was injured after militants had lobbed a grenade at security forces in the Sanantnagar area of Srinagar.
