Kathua: Search operation for tracing two missing pilots of Indian Army helicopter which crashed into Ranjit Sagar Dam on August 3 in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua continued on August 6.

Expert navy divers along with Jammu and Kashmir police and Punjab police joined the operation. The Army helicopter crashed on August 3. According to eyewitnesses, the chopper flying over Ranjit Sagar Dam suddenly came down and crashed into the water.

A helmet, two big-size bags, one shoe, identity cards and some pieces of the helicopter were recovered during the rescue operation on Tuesday, sources said. The massive rescue operation, of which a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also a part was suspended at night on Tuesday.

According to reports, the helicopter took off from Mamun Cantonment at 10:20 am. The chopper belongs to the 254 Army Aviation Squadron. While it crashed, the helicopter was involved in low-level sorties in the Ranjit Sagar Dam area. It crashed about 30 km from Pathankot in Punjab. Reports also said the depth of the crash site would be over 200 feet. Ranjit Sagar lake is shared jointly by both Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir governments.
