Srinagar:Police and security forces killed three LeT militants in Srinagar, who were allegedly involved in the recent killing of Sarpanch Sameer Ahmad Bhat.
Giving details, a police official said that based on a specific input generated by them regarding the presence of militants in the Nowgam area of Srinagar, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and 50RR in the area. "During the search operation, as the forces proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the search party, who retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter. The search party was also joined by CRPF personnel on the encounter," the official said.
In the ensuing encounter, three categorized militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site. They have been identified as Adil Nabi Teli, Shakir Ahmad Tantray and Yasir Ahmad Wagay. As per police records, the slain militants were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) and were active since 2021. "They were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SF and atrocities against civilians," the official said.
IGP Vijay Kashmir said that all the three slain militants were involved in the recent killing of Sarpanch Sameer Ahmad Bhat at Khanmoh Srinagar. Besides, they were planning to attack security forces on the NHW. Pertinently, militant Adil Teli along with his associates was also involved in the killing of Inspector Pervaiz Ahmad Dar at Menganwari Nowgam on 22/06/2021, killing of Javaid Ahmed Malik at Lurgam Tral.
Besides, he was also involved in a grenade attack on the joint party of Police and CRPF at Barbarshah Srinagar in which one civilian was killed and three civilians were injured, he said. "Similarly, militants Shakir Ahmad and Yasir Ahmad were also involved in several terror crime cases including the killing of ASI Mohammad Ashraf near PS Bijbehara, Anantnag on 22/12/2021," he said.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK rifle, three AK Magazines, fourteen AK rounds, two Pistols, four Pistol Magazines, six Pistol rounds were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. IGP Kashmir termed the elimination of wanted militants as a big success and congratulated the joint forces for conducting a successful anti-militancy operation without any collateral damage.
