INS Airavat reaches Africa with food aid for South Sudan

Indian Naval Ship Airavat, which is carrying food aid for South Sudan, arrived at the Port of Mombasa in Kenya today. Under India's Mission Sagar II, Airavat will deliver food aid to several African nations amid the COVID pandemic.

New Delhi: In continuation of the ongoing humanitarian mission 'Sagar-II', Indian Naval Ship Airavat arrived in Kenya on Friday with food aid for South Sudan.

The Indian Navy said that the ship arrived at Kenya's Port of Mombasa today.

The Indian government is providing assistance to friendly foreign countries to overcome natural calamities and COVID-19 pandemic. INS Airavat is carrying food aid for the people of South Sudan. INS Airavat will deliver food aid to Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea amid the COVID-19 pandemic under the Mission Sagar-II.

Mission Sagar-II follows the first Mission Sagar undertaken in May-June 2020, wherein India provided food and medicines to Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar and Comoros.

The Indian Navy is progressing this mission in close coordination with the Ministries of Defence and External Affairs, and other agencies of the Government of India.
