Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, walked out of Byculla women's prison, on Friday, after being a remand prisoner for over 6 years, on Friday. I am happy, a beaming Indrani told the cameras awaiting her release. Sporting jet black hair, Indrani stepped out of the jail around 5.30 pm.
Mukerjea hugged her lawyer Sana Raees Shaikh, smiled and waved to waiting media. She then stepped into the lawyer's high-end car and drove to her Worli flat. She did not entertain queries from media there. Her changed appearance prompted a flurry of comments on social media. So they have beauty parlours in jail, read a tweet.
She was enlarged on bail by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, which stated that six-and-a-half years is too long a time. "We are not making comments on the merits of the case. Even if the 50 per cent witnesses are given up by the prosecution, the trial would not be over soon. She is granted bail. She will be released on bail subject to satisfaction of the trial court. The same conditions imposed on Peter Mukerjea will also be imposed on her," the apex court said while granting bail.
Recently Mukerjea created a sensation by sending a letter to the CBI claiming that her daughter Sheena Bora was alive. The CBI has made it clear this particular angle will not be taken up unless there is an intervention from the court. The CBI has been investigating the Sheena Bora case since 2015, after taking over the case from Mumbai Police.
