The domestic civil aviation sector in the country is expected to bounce back to normalcy shortly, according to Civil Aviation officials. Passenger services were suspended on March 25 due to the nationwide log down to control the spread of Covid-19, though domestic air services resumed in a phased manner from May 25.

India's domestic air traffic to bounce back to normalcy within 3 months

New Delhi:Domestic civil aviation sector of the country is expected to bounce back to normalcy in the next two to three months, Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola said on Thursday.

"Post-Covid civil aviation sector has proved itself to be extremely resilient and one of the industry which has come out of the Covid...thought it is struggling but I don't think that the bad period is over and in two-three months at least domestic aviation will be back to its normal," Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola in a webinar organised by FICCI.

Passenger services were suspended on March 25 due to the nationwide log down to control the spread of Covid-19, though domestic air services resumed in a phased manner from May 25.

Speaking about the future of aerospace in India, Kharola said the state governments have to play an important role for this sector. The units have to be located in the states, their policies attract such manufacturing components all over the country.

"We are looking at job-filled growth and not jobless growth. The foreign manufacturers will come in only when they get a reasonable size of the market here in India and use this as a springboard for manufacturing and exports," said Civil Aviation Joint Secretary Amber Dubey.

Usha Padhee, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation said the government has been taking initiative to make sure that the ease of doing business happens, ecosystem and financial services open up for various initiatives which can give a fillip to manufacturing in aerospace.

According to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) domestic air passenger traffic data, the passenger load factor in the month of November shown some recovery due to increased demand after the opening of lockdown and onset of the festive season.

In October, 52.71 lakh passengers travelled across the country while in September 39.43 lakh passengers took to the Indian skies.
