India logs 36,571 fresh COVID cases, 540 deaths

India recorded 36,571 COVID-19 infections and 540 fatalities in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry.

Hyderabad: A single day rise of 36,571 COVID-19 infections and 540 fatalities push India's tally of cases to 3,23,58,829, death toll to 4,33,589, says the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. Active COVID-19 cases in the country declined to 3,63,605, lowest in 150 days while the national COVID recovery rate stands at 97.54 per cent, according to the data updated at 8am.

The health ministry said 50,26,99,702 samples have been tested till August 19 of which 18,86,271 were tested on Thursday. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,15,61,635, the data stated. According to the ministry, 57,22,81,488 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive so far.
