Hyderabad:With only 1 per cent of the world's vehicles, India accounts for 11 per cent of the global death in road accidents, the highest in the world, according to a report by the World Bank.
The country accounts for about 4.5 lakh road crashes per annum, in which 1.5 lakh people die, PTI reported.
"India tops the world in road crash deaths and injuries. It has 1 per cent of the world's vehicles but accounts for 11 per cent of all road crash deaths, witnessing 53 road crashes every hour; killing 1 person every 4 minutes," the World Bank report said.
In the last decade, 13 lakh people died and another 50 lakh got injured on Indian roads, it added.
Here are some major bus accidents that happened in India:
16.02.21: Madhya Pradesh
At least 49 people were killed when a packed passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a canal in MP’s Sidhi district. Most of the victims were found dead in their seats. Twenty of those killed are women — most of them were going to attend an ANM (auxiliary-nurse-midwife) exam in Satna town, about 140km away. The other half of the victims were their escorts, mostly brothers and fathers. Two children—including a three months old—are among the dead. More than 50 passengers were on board the bus when the driver lost control of the vehicle at around 7:30 am.
20.02.20: Tamil Nadu
It was a horror Thursday in Tamil Nadu after 20 people died in three separate mishaps. Twenty passengers perished on the spot when 45 people boarded on a Kochi-bound Kerala State Road Transport (KSRTC) bus collided with a container lorry in Avinashi town, a few kilometres from the textile city of Tirupur near Coimbatore in the wee hours of Thursday. Another 23 were injured in the incident that happened around 3:00 am. The condition of some of the injured was reported to be critical.
26.02.20:Rajasthan
24 people were killed and five others were injured when a bus full of passengers fell into a river in Rajasthan’s Bundi district. The bus was carrying baraatis (marriage party). The incident took place in Lakheri town of Bundi district.

24.11.18:Karnataka
At least 30 passengers were killed after a bus plunged into a canal in Mandya district of Karnataka. The incident happened at VC canal of the Cauvery river in Kanaganamaradi village of the Pandavapura taluk. Most of the deceased are school students. The bus carrying 35 passengers got completely submerged in the 12-feet deep water body.
