After having successfully disengaged with China in the Pangong lake area, Armies of India and China are scheduled to hold the 11th round of Corps Commander-level talks today. The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to be played from April 9 to May 30 subject to the approval of the Governing Council (GC). 1. India, China to hold 11th round of Corps Commander-level talks in Ladakh today

After having successfully disengaged with China in the Pangong lake area, Armies of India and China are scheduled to hold the 11th round of Corps Commander-level talks on Friday to discuss disengagement from friction points in Gogra, Hot Springs and Depsang plains in Ladakh. The two countries have been engaged in a military standoff for almost a year but disengaged from the most contentious Pangong lake area last month after extensive talks at both military and political levels.

2. COVID-19: Harsh Vardhan to chair GoM meet today

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan will chair the 24th meeting of the High-level Group of Ministers (GoM) to discuss the current national and international scenario of coronavirus pandemic and strategies that are to be adopted for availability and distribution of vaccines in the coming days.

3. PM Modi to release Hindi version of 'Odisha Itihaas' by Dr Harekrushna Mahtab today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the Hindi translation of the book 'Odisha Itihaas' written by 'Utkal Keshari' Dr Harekrushna Mahtab on Friday from Delhi's Ambedkar International Centre. According to an official release, the book, which is available in Odia and English so far, has been translated into Hindi by Shankarlal Purohit.

4. India, Netherlands to hold virtual summit to discuss bilateral cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a virtual summit with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte on Friday to discuss bilateral cooperation and look at new ways of strengthening the relationship. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a release that the forthcoming summit follows the recent victory of Prime Minister Rutte in the parliamentary elections and will sustain the momentum in the bilateral relationship provided by regular high-level interactions.

5. SC to hear plea of Mukhtar Ansari's wife seeking his protection against 'grave threat'

The Supreme Court is likely to hear on Friday the plea of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's wife Afshan Ansari alleging "grave threat" to the life of her husband, whom the top court had recently directed to be shifted to Uttar Pradesh from jail in Punjab. On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Police took custody of Ansari from Punjab's Ropar jail to transfer him to Banda jail in UP.

6. SC will hear 'Italian marines' matter today

The Supreme Court will take up the matter pertaining to two Italian marines on Friday. The apex court was reacting to a mentioning by the Union of India (UOI), which stated that the SC should hear as there is an "urgency in the matter." "We will hear it on Friday," the three-judge bench, headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde, and comprising Justice A S Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian said.

7. Amit Shah to campaign in Mamata Banerjee's earlier constituency on Friday

Ahead of the fourth phase of the West Bengal assembly elections, Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Amit Shah will take on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yet again - this time in Bhabanipur, a constituency she represented earlier. After campaigning against Mamata in Nandigram, where she contested against her protege-turned-rival Suvendu Adhikari, Shah held a roadshow to bat for the BJP candidate competing against Banerjee.

8. IPL 2021 to start from today

The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to be played from April 9 to May 30 subject to the approval of the Governing Council (GC). In another development, while the date of the all-important GC meeting to decide on the venues for the 14th edition of the league is yet to be finalised, it is most likely to be held next week.
