1. PM Modi to inaugurate lighthouse projects under GHTC-India today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Light House Projects (LHPs) under Global Housing Technology Challenge-India (GHTC-India) at six sites across six states on January 1, 2021, at 11 am via video conferencing.

Modi will also announce winners under Affordable Sustainable Housing Accelerators - India (ASHA-India) and give out annual awards for excellence in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) Mission.

2. Karnataka to reopen schools for class 10, class 12 students from today

Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa gave his assent for the state sticking to the earlier decision to partially reopen schools from January 1, 2021 onwards. Yediyurappa gave his nod to the proposal by Primary and Secondary Education Minister, S. Sureshkumar at a cabinet meeting.

The state government, which had ordered the closure of schools and colleges in March due to the pandemic, had decided last week to partially reopen the educational institutions from January 1, 2021.

3. FASTag mandatory from today

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that FASTag is being made mandatory for all vehicles in the country from New Year. The Union minister said that FASTag will be enforced from January 1, 2021.

4. Jio to make all domestic voice calls free from today

Telecom giant Reliance Jio will stop charging its customers for off-net or Jio to non-Jio calls from January 1, 2021, as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has abolished the interconnect usage charges (IUC) charges. Jio noted that TRAI’s Bill and Keep regime is being implemented in the country from January 1, 2021, thereby ending IUC charges for all domestic voice calls.

5. Suburban trains may resume for people from today

Mumbai’s suburban train services for common people may resume from January 1.
