IMA cadets eager to hit the frontlines

Only a few chosen ones get this opportunity to be a part of the IMA as thousands of young men from across the country sit for the competitive examination and face interview before entering into the world-class military academy.

Dehradun: Filled with confidence, fully trained and armed with modern weapons, the Indian Military Academy (IMA) gentlemen cadets are ready to take on the enemy.

They are trained and prepared to safeguard the country's border.

Lieutenant colonel Raman Gakker says it's difficult to prepare cadets for such a lifestyle which is totally different from that of the normal one.

The life here at the IMA is quite different from that of the college or school, he said.

After school or college, to lead a disciplined life could be very challenging for many but keeping in mind the famous phrase - there is no gain, without pain, they go for the training, which ensures them a chance to serve the nation. Thousands of young men, inspired by the phrase, join the IMA to fulfil their dreams and to serve the nation.

It's an experience of having a new for gentlemen cadets from the day of joining the IMA to the passing out day.

The officers of the academy play the role of parents of the cadets as they train away from their houses and loved ones.

They are trained not only physically, mentally and academically but are readied for all kinds of situations in war, says Major Nikhil Nikam.

They are also trained in the usage and handling of modern weapons.

The IMA aims to train cadets in a way that they become brave and rational, so they could take decisions with bravery.

As they say in the IMA that the one who fires first, wins. Inspired by these lines, they all train hard in the academy.

Inspector Harpat Ram of the IMA says that the cadets are trained from the firing of the first bullet to one-on-one fight. And that's why the Indian army is recognised for its professionalism in the world.

People who join IMA have this dream of doing something different in life. They say no to regular lifestyle and chose a tough one.

Avnish, who has many family members serving in the Indian Army, says "I grew up in a disciplined environment but I too had problems during my training at the IMA.

The IMA trains cadets of friendly countries. They are also given the world-class military training here and because of this training, they lead their armies in their respective countries.

Shorab Sadi of Afghanistan says the IMA provides the best training in the world and he had joined the IMA so that he could throw the enemy out his country.

India is my second home, he said.
