IAF officer rape case: Police move Court for the transfer of case

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu):The central all-women police station in Coimbatore filed a plea before the principal district sessions judge court seeking the handover of investigation of the IAF officer's rape case from IAF for further probe.

A woman Air Force officer who was undergoing training had lodged a complaint on Sept. 20 at the Coimbatore Gandhipuram women police station, alleging that she had been sexually abused by a fellow Air Force lieutenant, Amitesh Harmuk on Sept. 10.

The woman Air Force officer has also said in her police complaint, that she was also subjected to the two-finger rape test, which has been banned by the Supreme Court.

Police arrested Amitesh on Sept. 25 and he was remanded in judicial custody. IAF authorities moved the court seeking his custody for further inquiry and court-martial, saying the local police had no jurisdiction to investigate and arrest him, with the issue being a defense matter.

The court had earlier gave direction to the city police to hand over the case to IAF for the court-martial.
