IAF chopper crash: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin visits Madras Regimental Centre in Wellington

Sources said Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin will visit the spot where an IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter crashed in Coonoor, on Thursday morning.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Wednesday visited the Madras Regimental Centre in Wellington and held a meeting with the defence officials present there. The Mi-17V5 helicopter, carrying CDS Gen Bipin Rawat and 13 others, was heading for Wellington from Sulur when it crashed in a forest area, reportedly due to poor visibility following heavy fog.

Sources said the CM will visit the mishap site in Coonoor Thursday morning.

"I am deeply shocked & disheartened on hearing the army chopper with CDS General Bipin Rawat and 13 others has met with an accident near Coonoor. I've instructed the local administration to provide all the help needed in rescue operations even as I'm rushing to the spot," Stalin tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

Thirteen of the 14 occupants of the helicopter died in the tragic crash on Wednesday.
