HC issues fresh notice to all bar associations over court security issue

A bench headed by Chief Justice DN Patel directed all bar associations to file their suggestions on the security of court premises by October 12.

New Delhi: Delhi High Court, Tuesday issued a fresh notice to the Bar Associations of all the lower courts seeking their suggestions on the security of court premises in Delhi by October 12.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DN Patel was hearing the matter of adequate security in the premice of Delhi's courts.

During the hearing, ASG Chetan Sharma, representing the Central Government and Delhi Police informed the court that the Delhi Police Commissioner has filed a report giving suggestions to strengthen the security in the court premises.

While taking suo motu cognizance of the Rohini Court firing case, the had on Sept 30 stated that there is a need for the deployment of adequate police forces in all the lower courts of the national capital and had issued a notice to the Delhi Police, the Bar Council of India and the Delhi Government to submit their suggestions by October 5.

The bench stated "It is a serious matter. This needs immediate attention. Whenever police checked advocates they opposed it because they are in a hurry not because they don't want to be checked, so this issue should also be considered. There is a need for the deployment of adequate police forces in the court premises. Ample number of CCTVs should also be installed functioning round-the-clock,"

"Hi-tech metal detectors and baggage scanners should be installed. Under vehicle surveillance system-permanent and portable applications- effectively scan and inspect the undercarriage of vehicle for suspicious objects & more- should also be installed. Proper training to the police deployed in the court premises," court added.

On September 24, notorious criminal gangster Jitender Mann 'Gogi' and two other criminals were killed in a shootout at Room number 207 of Rohini court in north-west Delhi. The incident took place in the court of Additional Sessions, Judge Gagandeep Singh. Two men disguised as lawyers opened fire on gangster Jitendra Gogi. In retaliatory police firing, both the attackers were killed.
