Dehradun: Harish Rawat, the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and Congress In-charge of Punjab, now wants to be relieved of the responsibility. This political rumour is doing the rounds for quite some time. On Thursday, ETV Bharat spoke to Harish Rawat to know about his plans. Harish Rawat said that he would go to Delhi and present his view point before the Congress high command.

The former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that he didn't speak about giving up the responsibility of the Punjab Congress. Harish Rawat is the Congress In-charge of Punjab and played a pivotal role in resolving the recent in-party crisis in Punjab. He added that he will inform the party high command that now everything is fine in Punjab, he would like to focus on Uttarakhand. So, he should be relieved of the responsibility of Punjab and a young leader should be appointed as Congress In-charge of the state. However, he has not sent any proposal to the high command yet.

Uttarakhand assembly elections are due next year and Harish Rawat is currently the senior-most leader of the party in the state. It is believed that the party can declare Harish Rawat as the chief ministerial face of Uttarakhand. Since Harish Rawat has already held the reins of the state and has a lot of experience, the party may relieve him from the post of in-charge of Punjab.

However, a fresh crisis has erupted in the Punjab Congress where MLAs and Punjab cabinet ministers have demanded that Navjot Singh Sidhu be elevated as the Chief Minister of Punjab replacing Captain Amarinder Singh. Due to the recent developments in Punjab, Harish Rawat will have to continue in his role as the Punjab Congress In-charge till the issue is not resolved.

In a press conference, Harish Rawat claimed that there is no threat to the party or its chances of winning the upcoming elections. He also added that the upcoming 2022 Legislative Assembly elections will be fought under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh and there is no such thing as a change of leadership.
