Gujarat to boast of world's largest 'diamond bourse' in Surat

Surat is all set to get the world's largest new Diamond Bourse in the next 6 months. The Diamond Bourse will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while plans are also on to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the event. Surat Diamond Bourse has also made representations to Union Minister Piyush Goyal in this regard.

Surat (Gujarat): World's largest Diamond Bourse will be ready in Surat city in the next six months and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the facility. While there are also plans to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the event.

The construction of Surat Diamond Bourse, the world's largest office building, will be completed before March 2022 in Khajur near Surat. The building is all set to be inaugurated by two of the world's most powerful leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, all preparations for this have been made by the Surat Diamond Bourse Committee. The construction of the building spanning 66 lakh square feet is in its final stages.

At present, the work of the Diamond Bourse is more than 90 per cent complete. Once the work completes, traders from 175 countries of the world will come to buy diamonds from the facility. The building will have the potential to house 4,500 offices and is expected to generate a turnover of Rs 2 lakh crore.

Notably, 90 out of 100 diamonds in the world are cut and polished in Surat, and on the other hand, Russia supplies about 40 per cent of the world's rough diamonds. Hence, it is for this reason that the committee mulls inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin for the inauguration, Dinesh Nawadia, a committee member of the Surat Diamond Bourse told ETV Bharat.

He further said that the Surat Diamond Bourse is being prepared under the criteria of the International Green Building. Everything from solar power to eco-friendly items will be seen in the project. At the same time, this project is designed as per Vastu compliance based on 'Panchatatva' theme features and will be even bigger than the US Defence Headquarters, the 'Pentagon'.

World-renowned businessmen have evinced their interest to buy an office in the Diamond Bourse, and already 10 investors from Dubai have expressed their willingness to buy an office.
