Pathanamthitta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached out to Jayalakshmi, a plus one student, who presented the prime minister a guava sapling through Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi. The aspiring agriculture scientist, a native of Pandalam in Pathanamthitta, had also written a letter to him urging to promote the cultivation of pesticide-free farm produce through his popular radio programme Man Ki Baath.
Jayalakshmi dreams of an India where every household will have a small farm. According to her, when agriculture dies the environment also dies. Jayalakshmi has a good farm that she takes care of at her house. The farm is rich with several varieties of vegetables and plants, including those that are planted on an experimental basis. She gives free seeds to all those who visit her farm but insist they send her a photo when these plants flower. This is to ensure that the seeds she gave to them are properly planted and nurtured.
