New Delhi: Amid much chaos and the security situation deteriorating in Afghanistan, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday finally gave up power as the Taliban formed an interim government after talks between the Afghan govt and Taliban negotiators.
According to sources, Ali Ahmad Jalali is likely to be appointed as the head of the new interim government after the Afghanistan Government surrendered to the Taliban insurgents.
Jalali is a former Interior ministry of Afghanistan from Jan 2003-September 2005.
After a month-long offensive against the Afghan security forces, Taliban outfits finally reached the gates of Kabul on Sunday (August 15).
Earlier today, Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar had arrived in Kabul to negotiate the transfer of power at the Presidential Palace.
Meanwhile, as the Taliban entered Kabul, Acting Interior Minister Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal on Sunday said Kabul will not be attacked and that the transition will happen peacefully.
He assured Kabul residents that security forces will ensure the security of the city.
According to reports, the Taliban ordered its members to wait near the Kabul gates and not try to enter the city.

They said the government will be responsible for the security of Kabul until the transition process is done and that they are not seeking revenge and all civilian and military officials will remain safe.
With the Taliban claiming victory, it now controls all key border crossings with neighbouring countries. Besides Kabul, they have seized almost all major cities and airports in Afghanistan.
In recent weeks, Afghanistan has witnessed unabated violence perpetrated by the Taliban forces with incidents of torture and killings making headlines every day.
Now it remains to be seen how stability in the war-ravaged nation will be revived or it will be worse than before.
