Born on April 10, 1918, he forayed into the freedom movement with the Quit India Movement for which he was jailed for 14 months in 1943. He was also a key figure in the Mysore (Mysuru) Chalo - a movement that drove the Maharaja of Mysuru to accede to the Indian State post-independence.
A bachelor of science from the Central College, Bengaluru, he worked as a teacher and also tried his hand at journalism by bringing out a newspaper named Pauravani.
