Jaipur: Targeting the Modi government at the Centre, former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh, who came to Jaipur Friday, spoke on a number of issues like the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Adani group. He also played an audio of if an alleged drug peddler and claimed that it was clear that BJP leaders were involved in the illegal business of drugs.

Speaking to the media at the headquarters of state unit of the Congress here, Digvijay Singh, while raising the issue of drugs seized from Adani Port September 13, said that drugs worth around Rs 2 lakh crore were smuggled from this port twice in a month. Of this, drugs worth Rs 21,000 crore have been seized by the investigating agencies of the Centre. He said that while strict action was taken against the people of Bollywood when they were found with 200 to 300 gm of drugs and they were even sent to jail, but after finding 3,000 kg of drugs, the investigation has been handed over to the NIA.

Digvijay Singh said that the matter should be investigated by a sitting or retired judge of the Supreme Court (SC) under the supervision of the Supreme Court instead of the NIA. The Congress MP demanded that the appointment of an investigating officer should also be made by a committee which should also include the Leader of the Opposition.

Digvijay Singh tried to explain how the people in power at the Centre act according to vested interests. He alleged that BJP takes action against its political rivals through the Enforcement Directorate or the Intelligence Bureau. But when political rivals join the BJP, they are acquitted.

He also played an audio during the press conference and accused BJP leaders of being drug peddlers in 13 cases. He asked whether action would be taken against these leaders under the NDPS Act or not.

Questioning the NIA, Digvijay Singh said that the agency had earlier investigated cases like Ajmer Dargah, Samjhauta Express, Mecca Masjid, and Malegaon blasts. The result of the NIA investigation was that the Modi-Shah government released all the accused people.

As such, he said, the Congress no longer trusts the NIA, so the matter should be investigated under the supervision of the Supreme Court. He said that drug peddling is more dangerous than terrorism, so the Modi government should conduct an investigation in this case through a sitting or retired judge of the Supreme Court whose name should be given by the same committee that also includes the Leader of the Opposition.
