J&K:Suspected drone movements were reported at four places in Bari Brahmana area of J&K's Samba district on Sunday night, SSP Rajesh Sharma said on Monday, adding that a drone was spotted close to an Army Camp and another was observed at the Balol Bridge and in two other locations closeby. The drones were spotted by the Jammu and Kashmir police personnel posted under the Bari Brahmana PS. The officers did not open fire as the drones were flying out of range. However, they have requested the defence troops posted under the 92 Infantry Brigade for their support.

Earlier on July 30, suspected Pakistani drones were spotted hovering over three different locations in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. The flying objects were sighted simultaneously over Bari-Brahmana, Chiladya and Gagwal areas around 8.30 pm, the officials had said.

The latest sightings were recorded nearly a week after police shot down a Pakistani drone carrying five-kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) material in the border belt of Kanachak. According to officials, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel had fired couple of rounds towards one of the drones in Chiladya before it returned to the Pakistani side. The other two drones disappeared from the sky shortly after hovering over sensitive security installations at Bari Brahmana and along Jammu-Pathankot Highway in Gagwal, the officials added.

Earlier on July 16, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operating around the Jammu Air Base was detected by the radars of the anti-drone system deployed by the National Security Guard (NSG) in the city. It is known that the NSG had deployed an anti-drone system in the city after a drone attack took place on the Jammu air base last month.

Also, following the security threats, the Indian Air Force has deployed counter measures to prevent any such attack in Jammu and other important airbases across the country. Efforts have also been taken to address threats that could be caused by small drones. Following the Jammu attack, the number of drone sightings have increased and there has been several instances where the Army and Border Security Forces (BSF) troops at the border had to open fire at the UAVs.
