Former Prez Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit likely to join TMC today

Abhijit Mukherjee, son of former Indian President and veteran Congressman Pranab Mukherjee, is all set to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He is expected to assume the primary membership of the party at 4 pm today. However, there hasn't been an official announcement yet.

He is expected to assume the primary membership of the party at 4 pm today. Abhijit is a former MLA from Nalhati assembly constituency and a former Lok Sabha member from Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency. In both cases, he won the polls on a Congress ticket.

However, neither Abhijit nor the TMC has made an official announcement in this regard so far. Parth Chattopadhyay, West Bengal's Industries and Commerce minister, who is also the party's general secretary, is scheduled to address the media at 4 pm today. "A heavyweight is slated to join the TMC during the press conference," a party source said giving enough material to believe the heavyweight could be Abhijit.

Rumours of Abhijit started doing the rounds after he met with Abhishek Bandopadhyay, TMC's All India General Secretary, a few days ago. However, Abhijit had rubbished these rumours and described the meeting as "just a courtesy call". It is said Abhijit might contest the upcoming by-elections in Jangipur for the TMC.
