Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir): Former Jammu and Kashmir minister and senior BJP leader Thakur Puran Singh, who recently participated in the Kumbh Mela, died due to COVID-19 on Thursday while he was being shifted from Rajouri to Chandigarh for treatment.

Singh had recently returned to Rajouri from Haridwar. Officials said he had tested COVID-19 positive after returning from the Kumbh Mela and was under treatment in Rajouri.
Singh was a resident of Kewal Badhal in Rajouri. He had joined the BJP in 2014. In 2002, he had won as an independent candidate and went on to serve as a state minister in the PDP-Congress government in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was cremated at his native village in Badhal, Rajouri.
