Cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan joins BJP

Cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan joined the BJP in Chennai as Tamil Nadu prepares for elections to choose a new government next year.

Chennai:Former Indian cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan on Wednesday joined the BJP in Chennai in the presence of National General Secretary C T Ravi and Tamil Nadu BJP chief L Murugan.

The development comes ahead of Tamil Nadu assembly election is due on April-May next year.

Other than the leg spinner, actor Panju Arunachalam, industrialist Rajsekar, AIADMK IT wing joint secretary and many others joined the BJP on Wednesday.

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan made his debut in the year 1983 against the West Indies. The spinner played 16 One Day Internationals and 9 tests.

He had taken 26 wickets in the longer format of the game with a best of 6/64.

He played his last ODI match against Australia in Melbourne cricket ground. After retiring from international cricket, he has been a commentator for almost 20 years.

Earlier, Actor Kushboo joined the BJP after quitting the Congress party.
