Mumbai: A case of extortion has been registered against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh at Marine Drive police station. A total of eight people have been named in the FIR including six policemen. Two civilians have been arrested till now by police acting on the complaint filed by a businessman.
Reports said the Maharastra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has been asked by the state government to initiate a probe into the allegations against Singh for demanding Rs 2 crore to reappoint Anup Dange, a police officer whom Singh had suspended during his tenure. Dange alleged that a person claiming to be Singh's relative approached him with the deal. In the complaint, Dange claimed that Singh tried to protect some miscreants during the latter's tenure as the Director-General of the ACB.
