Amidst floods, man brings infant in utensil for polio vaccination

A man surprised the health workers at Sirsa village of flood-affected Mandro block in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district as he brought his infant in a utensil for vaccination. He wanted to bring the child to the health centre but did not find means in the downpour. So he used the utensil to take the child for vaccination.

Sahibganj (Jharkhand):Braving floods and downpours, a man brought his infant, carrying it in a utensil, for polio vaccination in Jharkhands' Sahibganj district. A special pulse polio campaign is being held at the Sahibganj district. A team of health officials reached Sirsa village of flood-affected Mandro block of the district.

The man from the village wanted to vaccinate his infant but he could not figure out the means to do amidst the downpour. He had to cross the flooded river in rain. So, he placed his newborn child in a utensil and carried it to the health centre braving the floods.

The health workers at the centre were so moved by the man's gesture. They appreciated him for his efforts. The health department team also took the picture of the man and the child.

The picture speaks volumes. It narrates the man's determination to vaccinate his newborn and secure its future and the hard work of health workers in reaching the village amidst floods. Above all, the incident is an example of the determined work of central, state governments, health departments and nodal agencies in sensitizing people about the significance of polio vaccination for many decades.
