Kanhaiya Kumar criticises Modi on farm laws

Former JNU student president Kanhaiya Kumar said that the farmers are pitching their voice against the contentious farm laws but the Prime Minister, on several occasions, asserted that the laws are in favour of farmers.

Purnea (Bihar): CPI leader and former JNU student president Kanhaiya Kumar, who was in Bihar's Purnea district on Friday, slammed the Central government for implementing the controversial farm laws and alleged the Prime Minister imposing the laws as per the requirements of country's top businessmen Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.

While addressing the rally, he said that the farmers are pitching their voice against the contentious farm laws but the Prime Minister, on several occasions, asserted that the laws are in favour of farmers.

"Prime Minister Modi has been continuously gratifying the newly formed laws are in the favour of the farmers. On the other hand, farmers have been agitating against the laws since the day it got the nod of President Ram Nath Kovind. If farmers are not demanding this law, then for whom our PM passed these laws?", said Kumar.

Mocking at Mr Modi frequently delivered statement- "Mai desh nahi bikne dunga", he said that the country starts getting doubt over his intention to sell the nation to his dearest friend Ambani and Adani.

Farmers have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Multiple rounds of talks between the government and the farmers have failed to end the stalemate.

Farmers say the new laws will lead to the cartelisation and commercialisation of agriculture. While, the Modi government has been pitching said the reforms will benefit farmers and boost production through private investment.
