New Delhi:The Congress party, on Friday, asked ex-Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai to apologise to the nation for "misleading" the people over the 2G spectrum matter.

While addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera alleged that Rai was the "chief" among the co-conspirators General VK Singh, yoga guru Ramdev, Anna Hazare, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Journalist Arnab Goswami and Kiran Bedi.

"A conspiracy was hatched against a popularly elected government between 2010 and 2014. One of the Chief conspirators Mr Vinod Rai apologized yesterday to former Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam and he admitted that he had lied," Khera said.

"This clearly shows how the then CAG Vinod Rai had along with his buddies from the India against Corruption farce movement orchestrated a criminal conspiracy to destabilize and bring down a constitutionally elected Government that was working for the welfare of the common citizens of the country, especially the poor and marginalized," he said.

Khera also claimed that Rai could go to any extent if he can "lie to sell his book". Besides an apology from Vinod Rai, Khera said he should return to the government treasury all the facilities which were given to him as a reward or as remuneration subsequent to his retirement.

"We urge that he spend his post-retirement life providing his continued services to the RSS in Nagpur which was secretive until now," Khera said.

On Thursday, Rai had tendered an unconditional apology to Sanjay Nirupam who had filed a defamation case against him for his remarks in 2014 that the latter had asked him to drop the name of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh from 2G spectrum case.
