ED Joint Director Rajeshwar Singh likely to join BJP

Joint Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Rajeshwar Singh is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party soon, reports say, adding that the official might resign from his post and join politics.

However, speculations are rife that he has already called it quits.

Singh, who hails from Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh might contest elections from any assembly seat of the district on a BJP ticket, if sources are to be believed. Also the ED official's wife Laxmi Singh is an IPS officer and works in UP Police as the Inspector General of Police in Lucknow. As a matter of fact, Singh's entire family has been associated with police service. His father Ran Bahadur Singh has held the post of IG.

Singh identifies himself as an encounter specialist in Uttar Pradesh and had joined the Enforcement Directorate in 2009 on central deputation. He had also played a crucial role in exposing several scams including the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam and the 2G spectrum scam.

Reacting to media reports of Rajeshwar Singh likely to quit from his post and join politics, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Harish Chandra Srivastava has rubbished the news. If he proposes to join the BJP, then the party will take a further decision after consulting him, Srivastava said.
