Srinagar (Jammu Kashmir):A major tragedy was averted on Monday when the security forces detected an improvised explosive device (IED) near the railway crossing in the Nowgam area of Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
Police said a patrolling party of the security forces detected the IED on the national highway.
A suspicious object was spotted by the Road Opening Party (RoP) of CRPF and police near Peaks Automobiles, barely a few hundred meters away from Nowgam Railway station after which experts and a bomb disposal squad was called to inspect the object.
"Movement of traffic was halted in the area. Bomb disposal squad later diffused the IED and traffic was allowed to resume.
