Jalgaon: Dr. Sandeep Patel's team saved the lives of 270 patients in Jalgaon's Government Medical College and Hospital on Thursday night after the hospital's oxygen tank ran dry. The Chairman of the oxygen committee of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Patel's team managed the patient's breathing through the effective utilization of an available oxygen backup system.

He was praised not only for his work but also for the fact that he was working even on Friday despite being his birthday. The Oxygen Committee has been working hard for the last 15 months to arrange the supply of oxygen in Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals.

On Thursday around 7.30 pm, the 20,000-liter capacity oxygen tank at the Government Medical College was completely drained. But, without relenting, Dr. Patel instantly started a backup system of 100 oxygen cylinders just 10 minutes before the end of the oxygen tank.

He also quickly called up the employees who already completed their duty and started 'Operation Oxygen'. He went to all the wards for the update on oxygen stock. He then called up the trader and ordered another batch of 100 new cylinders. Finally, an oxygen tanker arrived at the hospital at 12:42 am.

The Oxygen Committee's run lasted eight hours. During this time, Dr. Ramanand, Dean was also present there for 6 hours. He observed Dr Patel's management and guided him whenever necessary. After midnight, on the occasion of his birthday, his family called to wish him.

But he hung up on them saying, "I am in an important work right now, let's talk later" and dedicated 100 percent of his focus towards his duty to make the oxygen system swift for the patient. His hard work paid off as not a single patient lost their lives.

Speaking after the Oxygen committee's herculean run, Dr. Patel said that he got the support of oxygen committee members and Officers. Dr. Jayprakash Ramanand later felicitated Dr Sandeep Patel by presenting him flowers to mark his birthday on Friday.
