New Delhi: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MPs on Monday wore black shirts as a mark of protest against the Central government "bulldozing the draconian bills" in Parliament. Even as the Monsoon session of Parliament has entered into its final week, some key bills moved and even passed in the house today amid the continuous sloganeering of the Opposition.
Addressing the media, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva said, "Despite the Opposition demand for a discussion over farmers issue, price hike and Pegasus snooping, the government is not ready to accept these demands. Logjam is going on for the past three weeks. Government is making use of this din, and passing too many Bills, most of which are draconian in nature, even without a debate."
He further added, "Today, two very important bills are coming up — General Insurance Bill and National Tribunal Bill. If the General Insurance Bill gets passed, the insurance sector will be diluted. The entire country is agitating against it. We had suggested the government send it to the Select Committee, but our demands are not being accepted and instead of trying to bulldoze these Bills. Therefore as a mark of protest, DMK Rajya Sabha MPs have come in black dress."
