DMK's Stalin can't become chief minister, says brother

Comments by MK Alagiri, the eldest son of late DMK President M. Karunanidhi came in his address to supporters in Madurai, which is considered to be his political stronghold in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu):Expelled DMK leader MK Alagiri on Sunday said party President and his younger brother MK Stalin cannot become the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister as his supporters would not allow it.

MK Alagiri, the eldest son of late DMK President M. Karunanidhi, was DMK’s South Zone Organisation Secretary when he was expelled from the party in 2014.

Addressing the gathering at an auditorium in Madurai, Alagiri stopped short of announcing a new party, as was speculated earlier, even as his followers held up posters welcoming him to the launch of ‘Kalaignar DMK’ (KDMK).

Addressing his supporters on Sunday, Alagiri said that in DMK, he had recommended for M.K.Stalin to become treasurer but the latter was jealous because he got the post of South Zone secretary. I told Stalin that after Karunanidhi you will be everything in the party. I fail to understand why he betrayed me like this.

Alagiri further said, "When I was union minister, Karunanidhi had asked me to make Stalin Deputy Chief Minister and I agreed. No one in the DMK will accept that Karunanidhi has surpassed Stalin. The grown-ups of DMK have betrayed me. None can be created like Karunanidhi. DMK is currently operating by forgetting such a leader.

Alagiri further said that there are always posters calling you (Stalin) future CM but that’s not going to happen. My followers will never let you become CM in near future.

"Many people suggested that I start a new party. A few say they will accept my decision. Soon I will make an announcement. Good or not, all should accept it", added Alagiri.
