Kolkata:The debacle in the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections has badly affected the morale of the party workers in the grassroots level. Repeated attempts by the state BJP leadership to boost the morale of the party workers in West Bengal have failed. Now the Martyrs' Honour March programme of the saffron camp is another effort to boost morale among party workers at grassroot level.

The state is heading for by-elections in a number of constituencies soon. After the festive seasons there are possibilities for civic body polls. Countering Trinamool Congress in those elections is a major challenge for BJP in the present context. The leadership believes that since the grassroots level workers are the principal assets for the party, so unless they are charged morally it is impossible to counter the ruling force in the state.

BJP sources said that although four central ministers have individually brought our Martyrs Honour rallies, in every stage they faced police hurdles. However, this programme to a great extent has helped the leadership in boosting the morale of the party workers in the districts.

"The main problem is that despite BJP being the principal opposition party in the state, many party workers are disinclined to attend party programmes out of fear of backlash from the ruling force. We are specially focusing on that. Our main aim is to bring them out of their homes back to different party programmes," a senior state BJHP leader said.

BJP's state general secretary, Syantan Basu told ETV Bharat that the grassroots level workers are the real assists for the party. "After the election results many of them got demoralized. So our programme's main aim is to charge them up. Through these Martyrs' Honour rallies we also want to send a message to them that we are always beside them. Our central ministers are not just meeting the family members of the martyrs. They are talking to all BJP workers in the localities they are visiting. We are also noting down the problems that our grassroots level workers are facing," he said.

BJP sources said that after the 2021 poll results, several BJP workers have joined Trinamool Congress. "Many grassroots level workers are resigning from the party every day. We want to arrest this trend. We are preparing a district- wise list of the party workers. We will try to reach out to as many of them as possible," he said.
