Delhi records highest single-day rainfall in two decades, IMD issues orange alert

Delhi has been witnessing incessant rainfall for two consecutive days, with Wednesday having recorded the highest single-day rainfall for September in the past 19 years. The orange alert will remain for next 24 hours

New Delhi:Delhi has been witnessing incessant rainfall for two consecutive days, with Wednesday having recorded the highest single-day rainfall for September in the past 19 years. The Indian Meteorological Department has already issued an orange alert for the next 24 hours. According to the Department, 196 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi's Lodhi Road in the last 30 hours, while Safdarjung Observatory recorded 188.6 mm, Ridge 133.6 mm, Aya Nagar 114.6 mm and Palam 192.1 mm.

In the last 27 hours, Delhi has received more than 190 mm of rain, this has been recorded for the highest rainfall in the month of September during the monsoon. Apart from this, the rainfall during the last 24 hours has broken the record for the highest rainfall for the fifth time. This rainfall can also be categorised as the fifth highest in 61 years.

According to the MET, there may be light showers in Mundka, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport and adjoining areas of Delhi. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees and the maximum temperature at 29 degrees, while for Thursday, the maximum temperature has been predicted to be at 31 degrees and the minimum temperature at 25 degrees.
