Delhi HC grants bail to rape accused after marrying victim

New Delhi: The High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to a rape accused after he married the victim. The court allowed the passage of his anticipatory bail application after the victim's mother stated that she has no objection to the same.

The victim's mother informed the court that the accused has married her daughter and she has no objection to it if the accused is released on an anticipatory bail application. The court was hearing the matter via video-conferencing.

While pronouncing its order, the court stated that the petitioner be released on anticipatory bail, subject to his furnishing a personal bond in the sum of Rs.25,000, adding that the accused will not leave Delhi and will co-operate with the court in further hearings and court proceedings.

However, the bail application was opposed by the Delhi Police's counsel Meenakshi Chauhan who said that the accused has supported her allegations in her statement recorded under section 164 CrPC.

The accused said that the FIR in the case was registered to create a misunderstanding and a plea was filed to re-record the victim's statements under section 164 CrPC.

A complaint was filed against the accused under Bhajanpura police station limits under IPC sections 376 and 313.
