New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing on a petition filed by the Resident Doctors Association of All India Institute of Medical Science against Yoga Guru Ramdev till July 30 for his "controversial statement" on allopathy. The Association has filed suit under Section 91 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (CPC), accompanied by an application seeking leave of the court, seeking inter alia permanent and mandatory injunction against the defendants, as a result of a sustained and mala fide misinformation campaign being orchestrated by the defendant, who would consequently profit from such statements/misinformation, through the defendants.
The advocate told the court that such a campaign by the defendant during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic amounts to public nuisance, as also a series of wrongful acts affecting to affect the public at large in as much as the defendant is misleading and misrepresenting to the public at large. Association lawyer said that Ramdev is highly influential and has a very large reach, with followers numbering several lakh on social media, and accordingly, statements made by him have the potential to directly influence his followers.
