New Delhi: The Patiala House Court in Delhi has sent an accused, Avtar Singh Kochhar alias Dolly, to 15 days' police custody in connection with the alleged cheating of Rs 200 crore from Aditi Singh, wife of former Ranbaxy promoter Shivendra Singh. Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh has given this order.

According to the Delhi Police, whatever money was recovered from the complainant was given to Avtar Singh and his men at various places. Investigation revealed that in this case, at the behest of Sukesh Chandrashekhar, Avtar Singh recovered Rs 160 crore from the complainant through the Ramani brothers and other channels. Delhi Police had raided various locations of Avtar Singh, but he had disappeared along with his entire family.

A non-bailable warrant was issued against Avtar Singh and he was eventually arrested from Panchkula. According to Delhi Police, Avtar Singh said during interrogation that he had contacted Deepak Ramani in June 2020.

Deepak Ramani had got in touch with Avtar Singh to send huge amounts of money to other parts of the country, including Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad and also abroad. For this, Avtar Singh used to take a commission of 7 to 8 percent from Ramani. After questioning, Avtar Singh was arrested and produced in the court.

It may be mentioned that on September 6, the court sent actress and partner of Chandrasekhar Leena Maria, Arun Muthu and Mohan Raj to 15 days' police custody while Kamlesh Kothari and Joel Daniels were sent to seven days' police custody. Leena Maria was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police September 5.

In this case, the court had sent Chandrasekhar to police remand for 14 days September 4 last. The Delhi Police has imposed MCOCA on Sukesh Chandrasekhar, but the court had raised questions on imposition of MCOCA. The court had said that the Delhi Police is saying that it is necessary to take cognizance of more than two charge sheets for imposing MCOCA. At the same time, it should also be clear whether the accused is part of a gang or he was acting on his own. Sukesh was in jail for trying to bribe the Election Commission in the AIADMK symbol case.
